Tom is passionate about four areas, leadership, learning, technology and collaboration.

Tom was once again ranked #2 Most Influential People in Accounting in Accounting Today's Top 100 Most Influential People list (his eleventh time on the list). He was also named to the CPA Practice Advisor Accounting Hall of Fame in 2015.

"Hood's greatest attribute isn't that he consistently glimpses the future more quickly than the rest of us (though he does). It's that he's able to bring it back to the present and serve as its tireless, inspiring and effective champion." - Accounting Today 2015 Top 100 Most Influential People

Tom believes these four areas are critical ingredients to helping organizations “shape their future” and thrive in this period of rapid change and increasing complexity. He helps accounting and finance professionals be more 'future ready' through his work at the Maryland Association of CPAs and the Business Learning Institute, a center for the development of leadership, strategic thinking, and collaboration skills.

Tom's significant presence in social media prompted Linked-in to recruit him as one of their Top 150 Influencers and he was named to the Top 25 Influencers in Learning by HR Examiner.

Tom and his team have run structured collaboration for the AICPA Major Firms Group (Top 100 CPA firms), the AICPA Leadership Academy and the Maryland Competitiveness Coalition. Tom and his team have lead over 100 strategic planning sessions for the top CPA firms all over the US, along with corporations and non-profits.

One of his top strategic thinking and collaboration tools is i2a - Insights to Action a strategic thinking system that he co-authored with Gretchen Pisano. The i2a process was customized for Sage in their VIsion to Strategy workshops and the national CPA Horizons 2025 project where Tom and his team engaged thousands of participants in a conversation about the future of the CPA Profession.

Analog Devices is a $2.8B semiconductor company.

I create systems, tools and training to measure accurate manufacturing costs that drive manufacturing, engineering and design behavior to optimize profit margins. We develop strategic and tactical planning of product portfolios based on the cost data and working with design and marketing teams for future demand and manufacturing and engineering teams for operational execution. Benchmark systems are created to manage financial performance all through the process.

I support testing and development of the cost accounting system, which comprehends the unique nuances of process manufacturing of semiconductors. What makes the accounting different from most electronics companies is the yield loss that occurs at all stages along the manufacturing process. Systems must be able to measure the loss at each step and the good units must absorb the cost of the lost units.

I am responsible (with my team) for determining the factory cost of over 25,000 parts to the fourth decimal place accuracy. I manage the financials for our site manufacturing plant with over $120M annual budget and over $25M in annual capital expenditures. I manage inventory and reserve analysis for $400M of worldwide inventory.
